Agreement for REMUS (Remote Environmental Measuring Units) Allows Navy to Explore Rugged Underwater Environment
Pocasset, MA - Hydroid, LLC, a leading manufacturer of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), announced today that it has won a contract for one custom configured REMUS 100 from the Royal Norwegian Navy. This contract marks Hydroid’s fifth international deal this year and builds on its continuing commitment to European clients.
“International navies are beginning to realize the potential of AUVs, and we fully expect to see the demand rise as our vehicles continue to prove themselves in the field,” said Christopher von Alt, president and co-founder of Hydroid. “In the harsh conditions of Norwegian waters, the need for this capability is apparent; our REMUS system is pioneering new ways to safely and effectively patrol these environments.” Hydroid's REMUS AUVs can be fitted with a number of different types of sensors and cameras and have been used to aid in hydrographic surveys, harbor security operations, debris field mapping and scientific sampling and mapping. Hydroid’s AUVs are currently being used by many navies around the world, including the U.S. Navy, Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy, Singapore Navy, NATO Undersea Research Centre, Royal New Zealand Navy, Belgian Navy and German Navy Test Lab.
