(December 1, 2004 – Pocasset,
MA) Hydroid Inc. announced today that they have
recently received an order from the Royal Netherlands
Navy for two (2) REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle
(AUV) systems.
After a successful Nato trial in the
port of Rotterdam, the Royal Netherlands Navy acquired
two vehicles for national use. Upon delivery, these
vehicles will follow a broad introduction program into
the Royal Netherlands Navy.
During this introduction and evaluation
phase, a wide range of missions will be executed. With
this procurement, the Royal Netherlands Navy enters
the list of AUV users, while broadening its capabilities.
Kevin McCarthy, Hydroid’s vice
president of marketing stated that “Hydroid is
pleased by the further expansion of the REMUS technology
into NATO navies.” He further announced that additional
contracts are presently being negotiated, as are additional
trials in 2005.
Hydroid Inc. holds the exclusive license
from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for the
manufacture and further development of the REMUS Autonomous
Underwater Vehicle (AUV) technology.
