MA) After 5 years of continuous product development,
REMUS, the lightweight, low cost autonomous underwater
vehicle designed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
(WHOI), has moved out of the Institute and into the
commercial world of Hydroid, Inc.
Hydroid, Inc. is a new East Falmouth
based company established by the original inventors
of the REMUS system. The company has recently signed
an exclusive license agreement with the WHOI, which
provides Hydroid, Inc. with full rights to the REMUS
vehicle technology. Hydroid offers products, services,
and solutions to a wide variety of markets throughout
the commercial, government and academic sectors. Key
application areas include environmental monitoring,
mine counter measures, and hydrographic surveys.
Hydroid’s principal product
offering, REMUS, is now recognized worldwide for its
small size, high quality data, and ease of operation.
The vehicle has successfully completed countless missions,
and has gained a loyal following of military and academic
